Hattersley

When we moved to Hattersley in 1963
We believed that this was the best place to be
We settled in our home, 3 beds and a middle fire
We loved it and settled in our home built for hire
This place was the back of beyond,
No shops or services for us
No cars or vans or even a bus
Gardens of soil with mud all around
No fences or boundaries just solid ground
Our neighbours and friends all rallied round
We helped each other in this desolate land
With murderers in the vicinity
Taking innocent children away
Was this the best place for us to stay?
Well 45 years on and we are still in this place
Our children are born with a future to embrace
With grandchildren now going to the same schools
We are still here and live by the rules
We love our surroundings the hills ever green
The views are breathtaking the best ever seen
The majority of people respect their abode
And continue their stories, the best ever told
of a place named Hattersley, an overspill estate
Where families are happy and futures are great!
