My name’s Chris. I am one of the Community Arts workers in Tameside and have delivered community arts projects in Hattersley and Mottram since 2005.
At the moment I am working with the newspaper on the Pixelate project, which will help the paper make short films about local news stories to be broadcast over the Internet. In the past I have worked with the newspaper on photography projects and with the recordings of the paper for the visually impaired.
Sadly, our wonderful volunteer Bill Harris died on 12 November 2009, following a stroke . Bill was an important member of our team and will be very much missed by everyone involved with the Community News and Hattersley & Mottram Community Media.
As a new resident in this area I felt that I should offer at least some of my time and limited talents to help out. First I knew that I could read and the opportunity to put the Community News onto tape for visually impaired people seemed a good start.
I do feel that this way of communicating by a free paper is a help to those who are less able to take part in other things. During the present upheaval with the demolition of large parts of the housing and the new building work it is essential to keep people informed and the community spirit alive.
For myself I am hoping to able to keep being involved with the efforts to keep as much of a village feeling as possible.
