My name is Lesley Connor and I have lived in Hattersley for about 12 years now. I have been involved in the Community News since its beginnings eight years ago.
I am involved as a Trustee because I believe that HMCM offers a valuable voice for local people, because the Community News is local news written by and for local people. It’s a great way to challenge stereotypical views as well as celebrating the positive aspects of life here.
I've been a supporter of the Community News since the community newspaper was set up back in 2001 as a project of Hattersley Development Trust. So I was delighted when residents involved invited me to join the newly established management committee in 2003.
Watching the project grow as more and more local people got involved and then seeing the extent to which the Community News is utilised and respected by local people, from the 2006 Neighbourhood Management Mori Poll, provided the momentum for the Trustees and staff to develop a strategy to ensure the continued production of the Community News once regeneration funding came to an end.
Hi, my name is Caroline Gregory and I live in central Hyde. I have three adult children and have lived in Tameside nearly all my life.
I worked in Hattersley between 1997 and 2002 and made many good friends in the area. While I was working in Hattersley the community newspaper was set up and I know from talking to people how much is it enjoyed and appreciated.
I am keen to see the newspaper and other media continue to grow and provide up to date information.
I have lived on Hattersley since 1968 except for a brief spell in Marple during the 80’s. I have reported for the Community News, mostly sports articles, for the last five years based on football, athletics and cricket.
I have been involved in running local football teams, most recently Hattersley Vets and at St James’s Primary School. I am also the Vice-Chairman of Hattersley Football Club.
I applied to become a Trustee of Hattersley & Mottram Community Media so I can make sure there is plenty of local representation on the board of Trustees and to make sure local issues are heard, as I think the local Community News is probably one of the best things to happen on Hattersley since I arrived on the estate some 42 years ago.
